J.A. Crockett Pty Ltd
CSIRO ENERGY CENTRE
Winner: 2022 AWCI Awards of Excellence "Best Facade"
This project consisted of recladding 2000 square metres of non-compliant aluminium cladding with a product which met the latest NCC standards. The contract included re-cladding 3 buildings; the Main office building and two 25m high Solar Towers. JA Crockett arranged the façade engineering and quality assurance that all the products being installed would meet full Australian Standard and NCC/BCA requirements.
The curved walls around the auditorium was one of the biggest challenges, making sure that the panel would bend around on an even curve and not look segmented as well as forming the capping returns where it curves in plan and rakes in elevation is a real challenge. The junction with the windows was also a problem that was encountered, with no sub jambs on any of the windows a solution without pulling out the windows and redoing them proved an issue. An over-flashing design was developed by our façade engineer which the client accepted as the best cost effective solution.
